I am from the European Union and I have been working in a Czech company in Prague for 3 years. I have a 1 year old child and I am currently on parental leave. I am now pregnant with another child. I am elegible to apply for maternity leave for this second child, but I would like to give up this right.
My question is: am I legally obliged as an employee on parental leave to communicate to my company the birth of my second child?

thank you for your question. There is no legislation that prescribes pregnant woman´s duty to tell employer about pregnancy. It depends on your discretion, whether to tell or not. The same situation is about birth of second child, while you are still on parental leave - you don´t have to tell about it the employer, no legislation prescribes that.
Now about the maternity leave and maternity benefit. You are elegible to apply as for maternity leave from your employer - in this case you are also entitled to take regular leave and wage compensation for it, as well as for maternity benefit.
Maternity benefit is a financial assistance while woman is on maternity leave. You can give up on this right, sure - if you just do not apply for it by the Czech Social Security Administration. but I suppose it is unconvenient for you to give up this financial benefit.
