Aperio - Healthy Parenting Association

  • started in 1999 as a program of the Open Society Fund Prague
  • independent NGO founded in 2001

Aperio's mission

is to promote informed choice, personal responsibility, an active approach to parenting, and gender equality.

Aims:

  • equality of men and women both in the family and on the labour market (gender programs)
  • strengthen the rights of citizens to information concerning health and health services, with a special focus on childbirth and parenting (public health programs)

How did we start with gender equality programs?

"Aperio was founded by a group of parents who wanted to improve the situation surrounding childbirth in the Czech Republic. We later expanded our activities and began to address a wide range of parenting services with the goal of increasing the prestige of parenthood in society.
While offering counselling and advisory services, we often heard parents tell us how important equal opportunities are for them, not only in the family, but also at work. We redefined our programs more towards human rights and public advocacy work. We focused on encouraging employers to make changes towards the equal treatment of men and women on the labour market and set up a new program called 'Employers and Equal Opportunities'".
Lucie Ryntova, program coordinator and co-founder of Aperio
